This article Ten Tips for School Library Media Specialists by Frances Bryant Bradburn, Program Director of North Carolina New Schools Initiative contains some great ideas for school librarians. I like her suggestion to have fun in the library with non-academic activities. I have hosted a prom dress swap and shop in the library which builds great relationships with parents and students.

I also love her suggestion to get out of the library and into the classrooms. This can be hard to do but it is great to be seen outside the library. A great time for me to get out is during standardized testing. If I am not assigned to proctor the exam, I go visit and work with teachers and students in their rooms.

Each year I recommend a school-wide or grade-wide book study, maybe next year will be the year! I just started a teacher maker space. I will post photos of that soon!
